This topic has and is still being debated and no matter what objections form any quarters, the short-sighted leaders of this country still cant see the importance of the English language.
The English language is universal throughout the whole world and it is due to our beloved ex-PM, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohd's vision in maintaining the English language standard as an important medium in Malaysia, which has seen Malaysia grow and boom in the late 80s till today.
Without a good command of the English language, the international Investors from the USA, Europe and other countries where the English language is the primary or secondary medium, would even invest in Malaysia.
Malaysia had very quickly moved from a developing nation into a developed nation due to the influx of investments from the USA and European countries.
We are now going back into a retro situation, to the pre-boom times where the national language of Malaysia took centre stage in all studies and means of communication.
The young people of today who are graduates of Universities cant even speak proper English and this has led to the extreme difficulty in employing English speaking working people which is required in almost all Multi-National Corporates and companies both big and small dealing with USA or European counterparts.
Should the nations leaders fail to see this dire need for the English language among the young (as well and even more so, the Ministers in Parliment) to be improved immediately, there will be no hope for Malaysia within 20 years from today, to maintain its competitive edge in securing the global contract from industries, which has brought Malaysia to where it is today.
Woe to us, woe to Malaysia!
