HULU SELANGOR, April 19 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak will join the Barisan Nasional (BN) Hulu Selangor parliamentary seat by-election machinery on Wednesday night.

Umno Information chief Datuk Ahmad Maslan in announcing this said the Prime Minister, who is also BN head, would visit the Bukit Sentosa BN command centre and later adjourn to the main BN election centres in Kuala Kubu Baharu, Hulu Bernam and Batang Kali.

"The Prime Minister will for the first time meet the BN candidate for the seat, P.Kamalanathan, and later visit the other three state constituencies.

"I wish to state here that he is not helping the machinery because we feel we would lose but because he is the Selangor Umno chief. If time permits, he will first perform his Magrib prayers before the programme starts.

Ahmad Maslan said the Prime Minister, who is on a four-day official visit to Japan since Sunday, normally did not campaign in by-elections but since he was the Selangor Umno chief, it was only right that he came.

"The PM's schedule would be furnished from time to time. There is also a possibility of him visiting the parliamentary constituency again on Friday or Saturday," he told a press conference, at the BN command centre in Bukit Sentosa here.

Speaking on another matter, Ahmad Maslan said today being the third day of campaigning, the BN had obtained three bonuses.

"One is the Dr Halili Rahmat (the Hulu Selangor PKR treasurer) quitting PKR, the second, is V.S Chandran (the independent candidate) pulling out of the race and the third being BN obtaining the support of Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (AKIM)," he added.

He said the BN was gaining momentum in this by-election and more leaders were expected to leave the Opposition front to join the ruling coalition.

"Our candidate is also doing very well. He is getting closer to the voters and the feedback we get is good," Ahmad Maslan added.

The press conference was also attended by the office bearers of Angkatan Keadilan Insan Malaysia (AKIM), which is a splinter party of PAS formed 1995, to declare their support for the BN and Najib.

Its president Zakaria Salleh told the press conference that AKIM would initiate action against its secretary Mohd Adnan Ibrahim, the brother of Parti Keadilan Rakyat candidate for the by-election, Datuk Zaid Ibrahim, for breaking ranks and throwing support for the opposition candidate.

"We feel that PKR and its de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim were not fighting for the race, religion and country. He is only interested in becoming the Prime Minister. He is not interested in safeguarding the interest of the Malays in the country.

"We have 18,000 members nationwide. We would initiate action against eight of our total of 23 central working committee members because they choose to help PKR. This is not the stand of AKIM," he added.

He said AKIM did not issue any public statements on the matter because it felt that those who were helping the opposition would realise their folly and return to the BN fold.
